Qcells vs REC Panels: What the Datasheets Say

Qcells and REC both make premium residential panels, but they take different technology paths and warranty structures. This page sets their published datasheet numbers next to each other so you can compare like for like. It does not pick a favorite.

How to read this comparison

Every figure below is quoted from the manufacturer's own datasheet or product page for a specific model: the Qcells Q.TRON BLK M-G2+ and the REC Alpha Pure-RX. Efficiency and wattage are stated at standard test conditions, which is the same lab benchmark for both brands, so the numbers are comparable. Warranty terms are worth reading closely because the two companies split product and performance coverage differently. Numbers change as manufacturers release new model years, so always confirm against the current datasheet for the exact model a quote lists.

Qcells Q.TRON BLK M-G2+ (from the Qcells datasheet)

Qcells lists the Q.TRON BLK M-G2+ as an N-type TOPCon panel built on 108 half-cell monocrystalline cells and powered by its Q.ANTUM NEO technology. Nominal power is stated as 415 to 440 Wp with module efficiency up to 22.5 percent.

On warranty, Qcells lists 25 years for both the product and the performance coverage. The performance guarantee promises at least 90.58 percent of nominal power at year 25, starting from at least 98.5 percent of nominal power in the first year and a maximum 0.33 percent degradation per year thereafter.

REC Alpha Pure-RX (from the REC datasheet)

REC lists the Alpha Pure-RX as a heterojunction, or HJT, panel. Its power range is stated as 450 to 470 Wp with a maximum panel efficiency of 22.6 percent and a power density of 21 watts per square foot.

REC splits its warranty into a 20-year product warranty and a 25-year performance warranty. The performance guarantee promises a minimum of 92 percent power in year 25, based on a warranted annual degradation of 0.25 percent.

Where they differ on paper

On cell technology, the two take different routes. Qcells lists an N-type TOPCon cell for the Q.TRON, while REC lists a heterojunction cell for the Alpha Pure-RX. Both are high-efficiency N-type approaches, but they are not the same architecture.

On headline numbers, the REC datasheet lists a higher power band, 450 to 470 Wp against the Qcells 415 to 440 Wp, and a slightly higher peak efficiency, 22.6 percent against 22.5 percent. The wattage gap partly reflects different panel sizes rather than efficiency alone.

The warranty structures differ most clearly. Qcells lists 25 years of product coverage, while REC lists 20 years of product coverage; both list 25 years of performance coverage. On year-25 output, REC's stated 92 percent is above the Qcells stated 90.58 percent, driven by REC's lower 0.25 percent annual degradation versus 0.33 percent. These are the documented figures, not a verdict.
